One way to be an even more awesome kiteboarder is to come into the sport as a healthier human. Fermented foods can be really healthy for many people, so as long as they don’t aggravate your arthritis or cause other issues I encourage you to make them at home!
Now, for context, I filmed this video on April 22nd, 2020, on day 40 of our stay-at-home isolation to prevent COVID-19 disease.
And that is why we’re talking kraut, not back rolls, spray-sending top turns, strapless foilboard jibes, or other kiteboarding things along those lines. However in the video I am able to answer three interesting kiteboarding questions sent in by you all.
Laurel’s Top 3 Tips For Kiteboarding: Things To Consider While We’re All At Home With Time To Think
- How to practice kite flying (as a beginner) without getting overpowered – and does just letting go of the bar actually keep you safe all of the time
- What to do as an intermediate rider when you become overpowered on the water
- The most challenging thing that happened to me kiteboarding, how I handled it, and what we can learn from it. (Spoiler alert: reflect and adjust accordingly.)
How to Make Sauerkraut (Fermented Vegetables) At Home. So Easy!
Now – for the sauerkraut. If you’re not keen on the fun video above here are the steps:
Chop cabbage (add other vegetables if you like)
Add salt (approximately a tablespoon) to taste
Mix and let sit (water will start to appear)
Pack into a glass jar and cover with extra cabbage leaves, push down until water covers the leaves (no air should touch your chopped cabbage, it has to be covered with water and the larger cabbage leaves)
Place into a bowl with lid just placed on top (don’t tighten the lid)
Every day empty the liquid that seeps out of the jar and into the bowl
The day there is no liquid then you tighten the lid
Wait one week to one year
Open, discard the leaves on the top and if – in the off chance – there is any mold on your kraut just remove the top layer and compost it
Taste, eat, and keep in the fridge.
ENJOY
Here’s to our health and to being back on the beach together again kiteboarding one day, hopefully soon.
Sending all my love!
