Living in Cabarete, one of the great joys in my life is being able to converse with Spanish speakers. Knowing a second language has opened doors to so many interesting people and made living in Dominican Republic so much more fun, and easier! Cabarete, Dominican Republic is famous for being one of the best places on earth for kiteboarding, and I’m here to tell you that for sure it’s true. It’s also an awesome place for learning Spanish and to improve your Spanish speaking skills.
Constant Improvement
Constant improvement is one of our core values of Laurel Eastman Kiteboarding (LEK). As a company and as human beings we want to get better all the time, and at everything we can. I’m always looking for ways to up my own Spanish game, so I reached out to my friends at Cabarete Language Institute.
They set me up with a delightfully fun and perfectly personalized Spanish lesson right on the beach at LEK! What service! Not only did they come to me, but they sent their top gun: Isaac Trujillo. the director and owner of CLI. Isaac is a sweetheart. He’s a kind (and very patient) teacher. We had a blast on the beach studying Spanish, playing with Peter Pan and sharing fresh coconuts and coconut water with Pedro – one of Cabarete’s longest running beach vendors.
Your Turn for Learning Spanish!
Let’s face it – there’s more to life than kiteboarding. If you’re looking to do more than just kite on your next trip to Cabarete I highly recommend learning Spanish with classes at CLI. Coming to Cabarete with a non-kiter? Spanish language lessons are the perfect activity for the non-water sports enthusiast.
CLI can come to you right on the beach in front of LEK or pool-side at the fabulous Millennium Resort, home of LEK. If you’re lucky Pedro the coconut salesman will pass by for a refreshing fresh coco!

About Cabarete Language Institute
CLI was started by a dear friend of mine, Michelle Rahn. As a teacher, Michelle saw the need for a quality language institute here in Cabarete. Pete was her student back in 2010 and raved about his lessons at CLI. We miss Michelle every day here in Cabarete. She’s moved on to teaching in Europe (but we still hope one day she might move back!)
However I am happy to report that quality of language instruction at CLI under Isaac’s leadership is better then ever. Originally from Venezuela, he’s taught for the past 10 years in Italy and Belgium. I was impressed to learn that he holds a Master in Iboamerican studies from the Katholieke Universiteit in Leuven Belgium and has been teaching foreign languages for over 15 years! His expertise and experience is obvious and his enthusiasm is contagious, you’ll be in excellent hands.
